Obituary of Joseph Basil Maude, Jr.

Joseph (Joe) Basil Maude, Jr. of Venice, Florida, passed peacefully on May 30, 2022. Born June 26, 1927, in Chicago, Illinois, to loving parents Mary Ridge and Joseph Basil Maude.  

 

Joe proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Army and was a hard worker with a successful career building gas stations and restaurants throughout Chicagoland. He was an avid runner, completing many marathons and races.   Additionally, Joe was a cyclist regularly finishing 200-mile rides.

 

Joe and his beloved wife, Catherine had seven children raised in the Edison Park community of Chicago.   He introduced Catherine to cycling with a tandem bicycle, which they used to travel through their parent’s homeland of Ireland as well as France, Italy and Venice, Florida. Joe also loved spending time boating and fishing and enjoyed flying radio-controlled aircraft 

Joe was extremely well-liked and will be missed by all who knew him for his keen sense of humor and quick wit. He always had a funny story to tell his fellow residents at the Village on the Isle

 

Joe is survived by the love of his life for 68 years, Catherine Bridget (Heneghan) Maude, his dear children Kathleen Berry (Alan), Joseph Maude (Susan), Kevin Maude (Jill), Bridget Reistad (Thom), Margaret Baumgartner, and Mary Hartnett (Stephen deceased) and Julie Ann Maude (deceased), 13 beautiful grandchildren, two darling great-grandchildren, dozens of wonderful nieces and nephews and his youngest brother Patrick Maude.  Joe was preceded in death by his beloved brother Michael Maude (Rosemary), beloved sister Maureen (Thomas) Newell, and beloved sister-in-law Patricia (Mertz) Maude. 

  The funeral mass will be at 11:30 am on Thursday the 16th of June at Epiphany Cathedral, 310 Sarasota Street, Venice, FL 34285. Followed by internment at Sarasota National Cemetery, 9810 State Road 72, Sarasota, FL 34241 at 2 p.m.
