Obituary of Merikay Cox

Merikay Cox, 82, passed away in Venice, FL on January 26, 2023. She was born on September 10, 1940, in Dixon, IL to George and Julia (Gabany) Healy. Merikay graduated from Newman Catholic High School in 1958 and later from Sauk Valley College. She worked as a X-Ray Technician for 23 years. Merikay married Jerry Cox in 1960. They relocated from Morrison to Tierra Verde, FL in 1998 and Venice, FL in 2018.

Merikay enjoyed playing games with her women’s group in Tierra Verde and played tennis for many years. She enjoyed collecting cookbooks and trying new recipes. Identifying birds was a hobby close to her home in Venice.

She will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

Merikay is predeceased by her parents George and Julia Healy and her sister Nancy Cleary.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Jerry Cox, sons Kyle (Lisa) Cox and Bryan (Carolyn) Cox, grandsons Jacob Cox, Tyler Cox, and Jordan Cox, brothers Pat Healy and Jerry Healy, and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
