Obituary of Manfred Anton Spendler

Manfred Anton Spendler “Manny” of Venice, FL died unexpectedly at home on Thursday, February 23, 2023.  He was born in Dorsten, Germany to Alfred and Cecelia Spendler. In 1955, Manny was 17 years old when he came to America to visit his aunt Marie in Mahnomen, MN. He loved it here. In 1957, he joined the United States Air Force and served 4 years.  In 1962, he met the love of his life, Sally Wheaton.  The were married in 1964. At the same time, he became a citizen of the United States. They had one son, Troy.  Manny worked at Northwest Paper Company and Northern Natural Gas – Enron until 2000 when he retired. They moved to Venice in 2001.

Manny loved hunting, fishing, biking, and golf. His greatest joy was spending time with family and friends. He had a great sense of humor, always a smile, and boy did he love to talk. 

Manny was preceded in death by his parents Alfred and Cecilia; his father in law and mother in law, Chet and Madonna Wheaton; and his son, Troy; brother in law and sister in law Diek and Colleen Gamble; brother in law Herbie Ringat and aunt Marie Geray.

Manny is survived by his loving wife, Sally; sisters Cecilia Ringat and Lonnie Poljastic; nephew and niece Tom and Chris Ringat and their girls Sarah and Allison; nephew Steve Ringat and children Jackson, Ani and Kendall; and nephew Charles  and Tara Gamble and their sons Nicholas and Ben.

A celebration of Manny’s life will be held in Cloquet, MN.  In lieu of flowers, memorials to the Cloquet Educational Foundation, 302 14th  St., Cloquet, MN 55720 or a charity of your choice are preferred.
