Myrette Rodney

Obituary of Myrette Inez-Murine Rodney

Myrette Inez Murine Rodney was born in Kingston Jamaica, West Indies on September 17, 1938, the daughter to Margaret and Clifford Robinson.

Myrette was raised in a God-fearing home where Christianity was practiced and taught. Those early teachings led to Myrette giving her life to God at an early age. She loved the Lord and loved singing gospel songs and reading the Scriptures with her sister, who preceded her in death.

The love of God instilled in her led to becoming a trusted matriarch who was known as a no-nonsense loving mother, wife, grandmother, aunt and friend. Everyone knew she was not one to be messed with, she spoke and lived her truth and expected everyone in her orbit to do the same. She was a pillar of strength which made it very difficult in recent years when she needed to accept help from others, to do some of the basic things. Myrette, was unapologetic about doing the right thing, something she instilled in her children and grandchildren. Quite often she would say, “… make sure you do the right thing...” whatever that meant in a given situation. She loved deeply and fiercely, and she made sure her loved ones knew it.

With her strong Faith and love of God, Myrette left her parents and home in Jamaica and migrated to England in 1960 to begin building a future for herself. She was blessed with a sponsorship to attend St. Leonard Training School in pursuit of her dream of becoming an LPN. In December of 1969, Myrette’s journey would take her to the United States where the next chapter of her life began. The following year Myrette met the love of her life, Alvin Rodney, that love led them to the alter within twelve months and enjoyed 51 years of marital bliss.

The blessings of that training sponsorship began to bear fruit as she started her Registered Nurse career at Brookdale Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. That job sprang many tenacles in the form of private duty jobs, allowing Myrette to build a life for herself and her family. After a successful nursing career of 27 years, Myrette and her husband retired to Florida in 1996, with a desire to create a place for her daughters and their families to be “HOME” for her family.

Myrette was a devoted servant, and a member of El Shaddai Bible Ministries Inc., under Apostle Dr. Oswald T. Felix. She used her passion for God’s work as the Chairperson along with Mr. Mike Rodney, and Apostle Dr. Oswald T. Felix and members of the 1199SEUI North Port, Florida chapter to ensure the rights of the 1199’ers were heard and met.

Over the last 5 years, Myrette battled various illnesses spending time in and out of the hospital. Her health was declining but she never lost faith, she would share her nuggets of wisdom as much as she could. She used her last few weeks to prepare herself to meet her Lord, she would say, she wanted to go home to be with the Lord. On Tuesday morning, April 18th Myrette was called home to meet her Lord and Savior.

Myrette leaves to cherish her “beloved” memories; her loving and devoted husband Alvin Rodney, her daughters Georgiana Patricia Williams and GCzhan Rodney-Walker, Son-in-law: Damon Walker, Grandchildren: Gevon Rodney who was more like a son than a grandson, Jayden Walker, Kal’el Walker, Xxavier Walker, and Genesis Walker; Niece: Anthea Thompson, Nephew: Clive Thompson and a host of Grand Nieces, and Grand Nephews, Cousins, many other relatives, many special and dear friends.

Myrette will be missed but never forgotten because her teachings and love of God will continue to resonate with all of us. Rest in Peace Myrette, until we all meet again.

Special love note from the Grandchildren: “We Thank you for sharing your life with us, Grandma”.
